Mid '90s DOOL question [Oct. 1st, 2007|10:14 pm]

upsy_daisy rightly recommended I ask y'all a DOOL question. I hate to admit defeat in this arena, as I pride myself on bugging all my friends with random Tanner/Molly memories and the whole of the Alamania...uh, mania, but I need a hand up:

Tim Omundson, currently Carlton Lassiter on Psych, has DOOL on his IMDb filmography. It says he was TJ circa 1994.

Google is giving me nothing and my memory kind of gets blurry post-Jack getting the boot the first time around. Anyone remember who this character was? Who he was aligned with?

Barring that, we can all sit around and watch Tanner/Molly clips!

Why All My Children puts the cheese in cheesetastic [Sep. 12th, 2007|12:03 am]

Alexa Havins, Babe on All My Children, is leaving the program. She is joining her real life husband Justin Bruening who left the role of Jamie Martin on AMC in August.

Great, I'm figuring they'll shuffle Babe off the way they got rid of Jamie. Well, not exactly the way they sent Jamie away - somehow Babe tending to sick children in Africa while worrying about her lip gloss and who to have sex with in a kiddie pool isn't going to do much for America's reputation abroad.

I don't like the Babe character.

Anyway, no such luck in getting rid of Babe. The show is recasting. Amanda Baker, who plays Jolene on General Hospital: Night Shift will be taking over the role.

Where does there cheesetastic aspect enter the picture? Here! Cut for mild spoilersCollapse )

I don't know if anyone else watches All My Children but not only doesn't the program stink all the time, there are actually the beginnings of several good storylines with interesting actors working together.

cut for a long rant because I've been annoyed about the show for a while and it wasn't a beach day todayCollapse )

You guys. If you're not watching Days of our Lives, you really should be. It has gotten INSANELY AWESOME recently! While I watch, I keep saying to myself, "Show! When did you get so good again?"

Okay, there's your weak spots, like Belle and Shawn and Philip. Why has no one noticed that Belle is a complete and utter tool? And Stephanie needs to shut up, immediately. But! Such coolness otherwise! I seriously feel like I'm flashing back to 1985. All Kayla needs is the bangs of power and we'd be there. Because omg, Doug and Julie got the key to Doug's Place and they and Bo and Hope are going to go searching in the tunnel that connects to the DiMeras! And I was like, "...wait. OMG I REMEMBER THAT TUNNEL!"

And John is out of the coma and I am like, "OMG EYEBROW WHO KNEW HOW MUCH I COULD HAVE MISSED YOU?" And Chelsea is not hateful and Willow is finally dead and they got rid of Mimi and Bonnie and I hear rumors about maybe bringing back John Clarke as Mickey Horton and Bo doesn't need a swift kick in the balls anymore and The Claw has actually remembered she's a doctor and not completely insane, and you know, Stefano is back, which, need I say more?

So. My message to you all: Watch DooL!

I cannot overemphasize how awesome today's episode of DOOL is, at least the Steve and Kayla bits that I watched at the CanuckDays site last night. It's more than just seeing Steven Earl back in the saddle (:: cough ::) again, it's that his restoration brought Kayla back to life. Mary Beth Evans is so very charming in their scenes together from today that it cannot be overstated.

Finally, there is such intimacy in their scenes together, that I'd would almost feel like a voyeur, if I wasn't too busy just grinning. This kind of acting is exactly what I have missed on soaps and elsewhere on TV, for years. They really are awesome -- their ability to take the dialogue (much of which we've heard before in one form or another, way too often) and transform it into the most interesting conversation ever is a testament to their skill as actors. Really.

I'm totally thrilled.

(I meant to post this in soap_glee this morning, but left it in my own LJ. Oops!)

For those of you waiting for Stephen Earl Johnson to actually show up on Days of Our Lives, he did today. Or, he will on Monday in the US.

You have to register, but the clip for Monday's show is up on CanuckDays.

Enjoy!

Here's the thing about Days of our Lives:

Why won't anyone kick Bo in the balls? The show would be so much better if every ep featured someone kneeing him in the groin! Curse those writers! Curse them!

Also, the ep from Monday? Gloriously wacky! I loved Belle and Philip and Mimi and Sean all waiting in the hospital for in-vitro fertilization, hugging and prancing and squealing joyfully at the thought of being mommies and daddies, while Bonnie lurked in the background in her candystriper outfit(!), drinking out of her flask - IN FRONT OF FIVE OTHER PEOPLE, NONE OF WHOM COMMENTED ON THIS. Awesome! Then, The Glove switching Belle and Mimi's petri dishes - Oh, The Glove! Don't you know that Sami Brady is the person who does all the switching in this town? Stop horning in on her act!

Lately, I've noticed there are a large number of folks on my flist who watch and enjoy soaps much the way I do, with a healthy mix of affection, anticipation, embarrassment, frustration and sappiness. We've mostly watched for years -- often off and on -- and our shows tend to make us laugh/wince more often that they make us cry. But we love them anyway, with an obsession and depth of knowledge no one else understands except another soap fan.

So it's time for all of us to get to know each other and squeal and rail and laugh together as we watch. Thus soap_glee is born!

The membership is moderated, so I must approve everyone who asks to join. Of course, everyone on my flist is an automatic yes, but I know several of you have other people on your flist who might also want in -- feel free to spread the word and tell them to come join us! I'm not planning on opening it up much beyond that, though -- just friends and friendsoffriends.

There are no real rules to the community; post whenever you feel like it, about anything soap-related that strikes your fancy. I know most of you are DOOL watchers, so I expect there will be plenty of posts about that. :) I might be throwing in a ATWT post occasionally, just to try to rope you into watching it with me. (CASEY HUGHES, I LOVE YOU!!!) If you want to show off icons, go for it. Use LJ-cuts for spoilers, natch, and since some of us are behind in our viewing, I'd ask you use lj-cuts to talk about episode specifics too, at least for the current week.

That's it. I hope you all join, and enjoy yourselves!
